Homemade Peanut Butter Recipe

There’s something incredibly satisfying about making your own peanut butter from scratch. It’s simple, delicious, and you get to control the ingredients! Plus, it can be more than just a snack—your homemade peanut butter can be the secret ingredient that elevates classic Filipino dishes, like our favorite Crispy Pata Kare-Kare!

Here’s how you can create an easy, special Homemade Peanut Butter recipe that’s perfect for everyday spreading AND as the heart of a rich and flavorful Kare-Kare sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups unsalted peanuts (roasted or raw, depending on your preference)
  • 1-2 tablespoons peanut oil (optional, for creaminess)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
  • 1-2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (optional, for a touch of sweetness)

Instructions:

  1. Roast the Peanuts (optional):
If you’re using raw peanuts, spread them on a baking sheet and roast them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let them cool slightly.
  2. Blend It Up:
Place the peanuts in a food processor. Blend on high for about 5-7 minutes, stopping occasionally to scrape down the sides. The peanuts will go from crumbly to a thick paste, and eventually to a smooth, creamy butter.
  3. Adjust the Texture:
If you want a creamier consistency, add the peanut oil, one tablespoon at a time, and blend until you reach your desired smoothness.
  4. Sweeten It (Optional):
If you like your peanut butter a bit sweet, mix in honey or maple syrup to taste. Add a pinch of salt if you’d like to enhance the flavor.
  5. Store and Enjoy:
Transfer your peanut butter to an airtight container and store it in the fridge. It should last up to 2-3 weeks!
